It is with pleasure that we take part in this year’s student radio competition called «Καν’ το ‘ν’ ακουστεί 2023» with our song “ Peace inside us” Our discussion about world peace led us nowhere since plenty has been written about it. The students discussed their ideas on the topic of Peace, they drew, danced and sang songs. The lyrics are actually based on their own ideas. Under their music teacher's guidance they created a melodic ostinato using an application on the internet. It literally means "Come faithful" This music has been sung since the XXVII century. The composition is attributed to John Francis Wade who composed it in 1743. On the night of 24th December, 1914, during the World War, a German soldier played this melody on the harmonica together with some other German colleagues. As soon as the English soldiers heard it, they summed up and began to sing as well. That night there was no war and they all ended up having dinner, drinking and sharing happiness together. Description of procedure The children of the 6th grade of the 3rd Palouriotissa Primary School, submit the song "Peace" to the Radio and Music Student Contest "Make it heard 2023". The lyrics of the song were written by the children of the 6th grade in the Greek and Health Education course through the War and Peace Unit. The children tried to send their own message and their own voice, using lyrical strategies such as rhyming, emotion-related vocabulary and creating visual and auditory images aimed at raising awareness among listeners. In the Music lesson the children worked in groups and tried to create melodies with their voices that fit the lyrics they wrote and express the feelings they wanted to convey. Each group presented their thoughts to the whole class and the children created a melody taking ideas from the groups' creations. The Music teacher played the melody on the piano and the children made suggestions for changes. Then they put the corresponding chords. The song was then recorded. The children embraced the idea of participating in the competition, along with schools from Cyprus Greece and other countries. They looked forward to creating their own song. The creation of the song started with a brainstorm on the topics of “peace and war” by 12 students from groups 6 and 13. Each group initially worked separately with their teacher. Then we all gathered and by guiding the children with open-ended questions, they responded accordingly and their answers were noted down. The next step was to organize the phrases and words into song lyrics. This task, took place in a smaller group of 2 students from group 6, where we tried out different combinations of the given words and phrases based on semantics and rhyme. For the music composition, 2 students from group 12, were guided to put together a chosen rhythm and chord progression based on their favorite music genre, and through trying out a variety of rhythms and chord progressions. For the performance, 2 students were chosen, one from group 13 and one from group 8. The recordings took place at the school, during a music therapy session. The sound was processed by the music teacher. The poster was produced by group 6, during a class project on “peace”. All participant students enjoyed the process, said that they liked the final product, and that they look forward to listening the songs from other schools! At the Croatian language class, on October 28, 2022, 7th grade students were offered the following task: create a radio message of 90 seconds or a song of up to 3 minutes on one of the topics or titles: Let's create better future, Enough is enough! and Let it be... During the lesson, the students designed messages and song lyrics. Towards the end of the class, they read their works. and discussed them. One student wrote the song for which the Croatian language teacher suggested that she try create music. To that, student said that she would like another student to get involved in the music creation, whom she knows creates music for his own or other people's lyrics in his free time, mostly hip hop. Since that student had also written his own verses, the students decided to make a song together. The student learned about all of the above from the History teacher who supported them in their intention and promised to submit their work to the competition of the European School Radio Make it heard - Youth for peace 2023. For help with the musical part of the song, the students turned to the teacher of Music Culture who gave them some guidelines for their work. Since the school does not have the technical conditions to record a high-quality audio recording of the song, the History teacher turned to the city's institution Art-cinema for help, which enabled us to record it in their studio for free. The students expressed their desire to have another two students to join in the recording of the song. Student, author of the lyrics designed and created the poster to visualise the song. All of the above was preceded by work with students of the same classes on the topic of tolerance, peace, respect for diversity by participating in the program of the Zagreb Film festival of Tolerance, which for 2022 had refugees as it's main theme. It is with great pleasure that we once more participate in the student radio competition «Καν’ το ‘ν’ ακουστεί 2023» with our song “ Peace is what I ask!” We had lengthy discussions about such a burning topic. The children got angry and felt strongly about how unfair it is when someone attacks people who live peacefully, to experience pain and loss without being at fault. The Special Junior High School and High School of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Pupils of Thessaloniki participates for the first time in the contest "Make it heard 2023" with the song "Right to Life". Our school, the Special Junior High School and High School of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Pupils of Thessaloniki is the only specialized school in the wider region of Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly that provides secondary education to deaf and hard of hearing students. I WRITE THE WORD PEACE I write the word peace. The letters are correct. Bright sunflowers. A light that you want to go to. How does peace smell? It smells like sea, clean clothes, homemade sweets. (refrain) Peace builds roads, Rainbows without borders, trips with heart as a ticket, and stars, moons, wings. Come to “feather” the whole world, with care and affection. What does peace look like? It looks like a roller coaster, party, waterslides, a dance that you want to join. What’ s the face of peace? All of us, don’t forget! Humans, animals, plants, a sweet melody. (refrain) We write the word "PEACE," and emotions, smells, and memories spring up along with the letters. The children of the Private Kindergarten of the Educational Institutions of "RODION PAIDEIA" sing for peace, with their only goal to replace the borders of the earth with rainbows and embrace all creatures who live on earth with “feathers” , showing care and affection. The "Peace" project, aimed to help children understand the meaning of peace in many ways. What behaviors cause us conflicts and tensions, and why? How do we feel when this happens? What can we do to resolve our differences? We travelled to other countries and observed customs, dresses, food, and difficulties in survival due to drought or war. We asked ourselves what it is that all the people in the world would like. What do they truly need? What are our rights? What happens if there is a war in our country? Why do people fight? When we have war, are humans the only ones who suffer? What feelings do war and peace evoke in us? What happens to those who cannot stay in their country because it is at war or does not provide them with the necessary life supplies? We read the books: "When my mom lied to me" by Sofia Dartzali, "The city that chased away the war" by Papatheodoulou Antonis, "When the bells stopped the war" by Rodari Giani, "The Peace of Aristophanes" by Zarabuka Sofia, "Games and trinkets" by Nikolas Andrikopoulos, "Denekedoupoli" by Eugenia Fakinou, and "I would give everything" by Elena Artzanidou. The occasion for all the above actions, was and is, our everyday school life, discussions, and reflections that the children bring to the classroom, National anniversaries, and holidays such as: October 28th, the Polytechneio Day, and Christmas. Thus, during the celebration of October 28th, the children classified images that evoked pleasant feelings and memories as well as unpleasant feelings. They connected these images with well-known paintings, such as: "The Horse" by Alexandrakis, "The Mother with the Two Children", "The Dove", "The Child with the Dove" by Picasso, "The Scream" by Munch, and "Icarus" by Matisse. Each painting also hid a musical theme, so the children had to move and express themselves accordingly, discussing which painting fitted and what emotion it evoked. Through the brainstorming method, the children mentioned images and memories that caused them pleasant feelings, rejecting the idea of war. On the Anniversary of Polytechneio Day, we dramatized the story "Bird bracelets" by E. Kamaratou-Giallousi, and we met "Ladenio", a hero of "Denekedoupolis" by E. Moreover, we asked our students to wonder if Peace was one of our senses, which one would it be? The song lyrics are ideas created throughout the project, woven together by the children. As feathered animals give life and warmth to their young, as we vote for peace instead of war, we all have the right to peace, regardless of face... people, animals, plants, a sweet melody. The song's melody came about through a game with the Music teacher, who, after playing various melodies, the children tried to adapt the lyrics to them. After testing, they settled on a particular tune that was most pleasing to them and repeated it throughout the day. In addition, they visited the Music School of our Educational Institutions, where they listened and chose which musical instruments they would like to be heard in their song. The students of both departments actively participated in all phases of the project, from the observation of images, to the creation of a group poster and video clip, as well as in its final recording. The "Peace" project will continue until the end of the school year, so that the children will manage to create an original book of their own works, about how they imagine peace and tell creative stories about it. The book is to be sold, and the proceeds will be allocated to the "Social Grocery of Rhodes." Following the revolution by the Iranian women and men against the violation of human rights, the students of the 4th Class of Vassilies Primary School, along with their teacher, Evdoxia Klisarhaki, felt the need to raise their voice in order to protest and support the Iranian children by writing the poem “Peace, lead the heart high up” The score of the song was composed and performed by the musician of the school, Themistoklis Kritikos, and recorded in the hospitable studio of the 1st Workshop Centre of Iraklion by Stergios Hahlakis. Propelled by the ‘Youth for Peace’ theme, Kristie Stylianou, Maria Pissarides, Olivia Chiromeridou and Sophia Stephanou wanted to put forward an inspiring message of hope and resilience. The bright Sun of Peace Warms us all with songs. Into the garden of our soul Flows abundant water From the depths of our heart, The only source of love That overcomes all evil.
